Origins of Kawaii Text Faces
In case you didn't know, the word Kawaii is the Japanese word for cute. It is used in reference to many cute and cuddly things that you could think of. Cats, dogs, kids, anime characters and soft toys are some that you could use it.
Now in regular text conversations, most people just type what they need to convey. However, some people like to add in faces to spice up the text, or to express a certain expression that is otherwise not doable with just text alone.
For example:
Girl A: I think this thing is cute.
Girl B: I think this thing is cute. (▰˘◡˘▰)
The second message conveys much more about how Girl B feels about something. It definitely helps in text messages when you are trying to gauge how the person feels.
Kawaii Emoticon
Now, Kawaii Emoticons are the next level up from the cute text faces that you find. They can either be animated or they are static. I particularly like the animated ones because it really makes it much more adorable.
Emoticons are not unusual. They are commonly seen in forums, blogs and other forms of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
You could also try using them to express certain feelings like happiness, excitement, sadness and disappointment.
Chibi Anime Characters
While it does not originate from anime characters, there are plenty of very cute characters that warrant them the title of "kawaii". In most anime, there is always some adorable and well drawn animation that deserves that. I can already name quite a few of them:
- Haro from various Gundam Series such as Gundam 00
- Honey from Ouran High School Host Club
- Chibi Tifa from Final Fantasy VII
- Pig from Naruto(Shizune's Cuddly Pet)
- Chibi-Usa from Sailor Moon
- Nina Tucker from Full Metal Alchemist
- Pikachu of Pokémon
These are just a few that I can think of. In case you didn't know what is Chibi, it is small thing or a person with a small body. In this case, it is cute anime characters.
Chibi itself is also another version of adorable and is very common among cartoons and anime.
Create Your Own Adorable Emoticon
If you go to Puricute, they let you create your own personally emoticon. It doesn't have to be a face only emoticon, so you can be as creative as you want.
You can put yourself in the picture and add some stuff to make it look nice and cute. There are also stamps with various expressions that you can buy if you are a big fan of them.
The best part is, if you are not very creative in creating kawaii emoticons, they have pre-made ones ready for you to use. They have food, good vs evil, haloween, animal, nature, phrases and school just to name a few. They allow you to embed them into your sites. Isn't that cool?
Face Stamps
There are actually face stamps that are created using the "Kawaii Text Face" idea. This is good for sending mails to friends and family that enjoy cutesy little things like that.
Kawaii desu ne~
This term originated from 可愛いですね. It is their way of saying "that is cutesy". While it is not a common word usage in the USA, it is a well-known term among people that are into Japanese culture. That includes any sort of Japanese pop culture, anime or anything that is related to them.
If you are a big anime fan, chances are you probably have heard of it somewhere during your entire time of watching anime. Japanese animations have a great way making serious things look like it is not a big deal.
However, at times, these over the top loli and cute things can drive you over the top. An example of it would be Mayuri from Steins;Gate. She has a way of greeting people and use the word "tu tu ru". While it can be adorable, it does get on my nerves after a while after watching the anime.
Conclusion
I hope this has helped you know more about Kawaii text faces and emoticons. Have fun using them!
